Summary

Think of the word ‘hacker’ and you immediately think of young adults in their bedrooms cracking into the FBI’s website and generally making a mockery of the establishment and its choice of technology. But some of those young adults grow up to get jobs working for the organisations they target, preventing similar threats by thinking like their digital attacker. Others continue to work alone, using their powers for good.

Brian Spencer is one such man - a ‘good guy’ hacker, on the side of justice. A series of freak incidents spark Spencer’s interest, including stock market crashes, a central bank’s computer system going haywire and satellite links going offline, and this ex-intelligence agent decides to use his skills to get to the bottom of the mystery.

The Hacker Evolution Collection contains the original game, along with an expansion pack called Reinsertion that adds new levels and graphics to the simulation interface. Looking a bit like Football Manager for the hacker generation, players have to help Spencer infiltrate other people’s computers to gather confidential information that will lead him on the right path. As you progress however, the computer systems are going to get more complex - and Spencer is going to need funds to acquire new hardware to overcome these.

As you play through the third game in the Hacker Evolution Collection, Untold, you learn that a program Spencer wrote in the past is behind the mysterious infrastructure chaos. It’s a race against time to stop his own code from bringing the world to a standstill! Once you’ve done that, why not try your hand at building your own levels to have your friends crack as well?
