Summary

Pucker up! NHL fans rejoice, as the ice hockey favourite returns with added realism and expanded online features. Top of the list of improvements is the all-new Real-Time Physics Engine, that translates all of those real-world plays into the virtual match. Face-offs, body checks... even the puck's had a physics overhaul to make this the most immersive title yet.

You can tackle the leagues in the usual EA Sports way, or you can build your very own team from the ground up and poach the best up-and-coming players in the Canadian Hockey League and American Hockey League. Train them well, give them good opportunities on the ice, and manage them correctly and you could soon rise to the top of the table on your own merits. Alternatively, why not just acquire current NHL superstars and try your luck managing the very best?

The bane of every hockey player, though, is broken sticks. What happens when you pull a whammy of a shot and mess up your stick? NHL 11 now provides additional gameplay mechanics should that situation arise – kick the puck along to a teammate or get a fellow player to pass you his stick if you can't make it back to the bench in time. It's another way of keeping the action going without having to feel like play can abruptly end.

Career Mode offers the chance for players to begin their hockey skills at the Canadian Hockey League's Memorial Cup, for the very first time. You can pit yourself against licensed CHL players from various junior leagues and get scouted for the big time games. Online, championship seasons are awarded with ceremonies and user celebrations for maximum gloating potential.
