Summary
You think the mining and oil extraction we're doing home on Earth is bad? Just wait until 40 years from now – we might see companies profiteering off of the Moon! That's what happens in Shattered Horizon, a first-person shooter set in space that allows you to pump some intergalactic lead into your opponents in a zero-gravity environment!
The story is thus: Man has travelled back to the Moon, thanks to the sponsorship of some companies. The greed of these corporations, to mine the lunar surface for all its worth, soon results in a catastrophe as an explosion shoots billions of chunks of rocky debris towards the Earth's atmosphere. Worse, the aftershocks could soon destroy the Moon itself.
A thick layer of rubble covers the Earth's atmosphere, nullifying any chances of a rescue operation for those left stranded in space. These people are divided into two groups – the International Space Agency (ISA) who are tasked with apprehending those responsible for the blast, and the Moon Mining Cooperative (MMC) who won't go down without a fight.
You can pretty much guess what happens next. Galactic warfare – armies of astronauts floating around in space trying to mow one another down with space-friendly machine guns. And now the prize is for control of the Ark – the name of the layer of debris that sits atop the Earth's atmosphere. You can use your rocket pack to jet around and gain some accuracy while you take advantage of the lack of gravity to confuse your opponent.
32-player online battles can be had to control hollowed-out asteroids, huge fragments of Moon rock and the ruins of the International Space Station that was taken out in the explosion. Grab this game for some familiar shooting action in a completely unique environment.
