Summary

One thing the DS excels at is fast and furious mini game collections. The kind where no one has to wait too long before they get passed the controller and get their chance to shine, or make a complete fool of themselves. With Space Camp, Activision throws its hat into the DS mini-game collection market. Space Camp is aimed at younger gamers, and in the games single-player story mode the mini games in question are woven into a tale of space adventure and exploration.

Our hero is at space camp, and while looking inside a rocket, they accidentally press a button that sends them to the moon. Once at the moonbase, you need to find enough fuel to refill your rocket's tanks and bring you safely back to Earth. So the game is all about exploring the moonbase, but to do this you have to successfully complete the mini-games. You'll have to manufacture tools to help you open doors and lockers, some of which help you towards your goal and some of which just contain collectibles such as new outfits to wear.

As you'd expect from a mini game collection, there are loads of different game types, and if you do not like one, there will almost definitely be another that you do like. There are Pipemania-style games where you have to direct electrical current around a circuit, driving games, shooting games, and many more.

If you're having difficulty reaching your fuel goal and returning to earth, you can directly synthesize fuel from moon rocks, but this is a slow process, so you'll definitely want to win your way through the games if you can. Failing to win a game gives you another chance to try straight away, and you don't lose anything, so persistence will pay off eventually. Your robot buddy ARP will give help and advice at certain times if you get stuck.
