Summary

Another Code (or Trace Memory in the United States) was a DS adventure game released in 2005. Another Code R is its first sequel, now for the Wii. Ashley Robbins, protagonist of the first game, is now 16 years old, and wishes to be a musician. At the end of her summer holiday, Ashley receives an invitation from her father, Richard, to spend a weekend with him at Lake Juliet. Ashley's father has been a shady and distant character in her life, he is a scientist who works away continually, on the mysterious Project Another, leaving Ashley to be brought up by her Aunt.

Ashley discovers that a series of mysteries surround Lake Juliet, and she realises she has been here before... just before her mother died 13 years ago... As the title, A Journey into Lost Memories, suggests, Ashley will have to uncover her hazily recollected past in order to sort things out.

Rendered in a beautiful cel-shaded anime style, Another Code R: A Journey into Lost Memories requires player to help Ashley solve a series puzzles and recover her earliest memories. This is done by wandering around the environs of Lake Juilet and interacting with the people and things you find there. There are many long and detailed conversation scenes, as Ashley attempts to wrestle revelations from characters who often appear to know more than they are revealing.

It's standard adventure game fair, but CiNG's attention to detail, involving storylines and creative use of the Wii control system set it apart from many similar games. Players use the Wii Remote to point at items and characters in the game, interacting with them as she explores. Ashley is assisted in her puzzle solving by her DAS, a portable device with which she can take pictures during the game. The game control also makes creative use of the Wii controller for actions such as peeking through blinds, fanning a barbeque or even agitating and decanting chemicals.

By exploring the game world, collecting items and by combining their intuition and skills in deduction, players will feel like they are themselves characters in a mystery novel as they unravel the secrets of Lake Juliet, Ashley's family and ultimately, of Project Another itself...
