As its name suggests, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut is a revisiting of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars. Originally created by acclaimed developer Revolution and released on PC and PlayStation in 1996, the game was subsequently released on GameBoy Advance in 2002
Still in the caring hands of its original creator, the Director's Cut is thankfully no simple rehash of its progenitor. While it sticks closely to main body of the original's story, events in the 2009 release begin 24 hours prior to the opening sequence of the original game - the brutal and horrifying murder of one of Pariss richest and most influential statesmen. This naturally uncovers elements and threads that players of the original will initially feel are at odds with the story they remember fondly, but some adept storytelling cleverly weaves these new threads into this extended tale.
Assuming the role of Nicole "Nico" Collard, a charming Parisian photo-journalist who witnesses the murder, players guide her as she investigates the statesman's slaughter. During her investigations, which feature exclusive new locations, Nico meets amiable American George Stobbart, who has been unwittingly caught up in the sinister and bloody theft of an ancient manuscript. Together, the two are drawn into a terrifying conspiracy rooted in a long-forgotten medieval legend.
In addition to extending the original classic storyline, The Director's Cut features an intelligent hint system that picks up when players are having trouble with puzzles and gives gentle nudges in the right direction. Along with revisions of some of the original's more troublesome puzzles, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut is a must have for newcomers and veterans to the point-and-click adventure.
