Summary

In 2007, Electronic Arts sent a serious shot across the bow of the skateboarding genre - and, more specifically, Activision's Tony Hawk franchise - with skate. Not content with shaking things up on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the publisher has brought its critically lauded title, famous for its tight controls and realistic moves, to the Wii and DS.

A senior team from EA's Black Box studio, the developer behind the PS3 and 360 games, has worked in tandem with UK developer Exient - the team behind the DS version of Need for Speed - to produce Skate It, working to ensure that this isn't a port crammed onto the DS, but a standalone title built around the unique opportunities provided by the DS.

Players return to San Vanelona (the city of the first game) with camera-man Reda once again in tow. As in the original Skate, your ticket out of San Vanelona is lining up sponsorship deals and making it into the pros.

Your moves are controlled using the stylus, flicking it across the touch screen to describe the moves you want to pull off.

Players will be able to customise corners of the game called MySpots. By completing parts of the single-player game, they'll be able to acquire bits and pieces such as ramps to deck out their area. Once they're done, you'll even be able to send them to other players. There are different multi-player modes on offer, including both single and multi-cart options.

It's time to dust off your board and get back out there!
