The years really do fly by, don't they? It's been ten years since Wild Arms first made its way onto the PlayStation. Ten years and four games, to be precise. To mark the occasion, the series is back with us once again in the form of Wild Arms 5: 10th Anniversary Edition.
Putting the game to one side of its RPG contemporaries, the setting for Wild Arms 5 takes its lead from classic Westerns. As you'd expect, you have to drop in a great old dollop of sci-fi to get an accurate idea of what the game's about, but it's from the wide open spaces of the Old West that Wild Arms 5 gets its feel and atmosphere.
The world of Filgaia has fallen into a state of disrepair. All that's left of its once advanced technology are bits and pieces of scattered machinery, and the remnants of a massive mechanical golem. Mankind's decline into decay has left it easy pickings for the Veruni who landed a hundred years ago and swiftly took control.
Back in the present day, Dean Stark and Rebecca Streisand are a bit shocked to find the giant golem has fallen from the sky. In its hand they find a small girl named Avril (no, not the one you're thinking of, pop kids). Avril has no memories, so off they trot to go help her reclaim them... Little do they know that the fate of the world is now in their hands.
