Summary

You've got to love an alternate 1920s populated by future technology and alchemy, haven't you? The answer is yes, you do. Which is why Hiromu Arakawa took the time to create a manga about it and why Destineer has taken the time to bring it to the DS. Enter Full Metal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy.

Based on the anime series rather than the original manga, Dual Sympathy follows the series' plot, putting gamers in the auto mail (prosthetic limbs/body, for the uninitiated) of State Alchemist Edward Elric and his younger brother Alphonse as they set out to find the Philosopher's Stone – the key to eternal life.

Taking the form of a side scrolling beat-'em-up, Dual Sympathy allows players to take on the role of any of six characters, each with their own alchemy attacks, which range from bolts of fire and stone spikes to gigantic fists and huge cannons.

In Story Mode, players follow the story of the Elric brothers, interspersed with cinematic cutscenes, while Character Mode allows players to take on the role of one of six supporting characters.

For good measure, Destineer has thrown in a handful of minigames (this is a DS title, after all) which can be unlocked and then replayed throughout the game.
