Mega Man ZX Advent is something of a special release for the Mega Man franchise. It marks the 20th anniversary of Capcom's long-running series. Can we get a round of applause, please?
The game is a sequel to Mega Man ZX, and takes much of its gameplay from it. Players choose between playing as Ashe of Grey, two characters thrust into the world of the Mega Men, super powered beings who protect the world from the machinations of the Reploids and Mavericks. As Hunters, the two characters must join the fight, using Biometals to assimilate the abilities of fallen enemies. In fact, you won't just absorb their powers, you'll become them. Having to get to grips with enemies that play completely differently to the two main heroes adds a whole extra layer to the gameplay on offer.
Further enriching gameplay is the fact that the two main characters differ in their skills. Grey's powers are weaker, but he moves swiftly. Ashe, meanwhile, is all muscle and firepower. Playing as both gives the game an added layer of replayability to keep things interesting.
The game mixes together action and RPG elements, bundling them together then lobbing them into an open world.
DS owners may be risking a spot of multiple personality disorder by taking on Mega Man ZX Advent, but they'll have plenty to go at as they do.
