Summary

Very few role-playing games made an indelible mark on the British video game psyche before 1997. That was the year Squaresoft broke the mould with its immensely popular Final Fantasy series. Ever since then, there has been a sharp increase in RPG games sold in old Blighty. One such game was Wild Arms which was released for the PSOne in 1999. It sold enough copies to warrant a sequel and has never looked back. Now, nearly eight years later 505 Games is releasing the fourth instalment in the series, Wild ARMs 4.

Get ready to join a cast of teenage heroes in this chapter of the popular Western-themed role-playing saga. Gamers assume the role of young warrior Jude Maverick who, along with his faithful companions, must set out on a non-linear mission to save the world of Filigaia from mysterious invaders from the sky.

There are several new features on Wild ARMs 4. These include a brand new strategic battle system, classic 2D platform game challenges and the ability to slow down and speed up time to discover secret areas and solve puzzles. The game also shifts its focus from the deserts of previous instalments to a neon-lit Cyberpunk-inspired world. The improved graphics engine that is used in the game brings this colourful world to life.

The new battle system used in Wild ARMs 4 is called HEX due to its strategic hexagonal grid system. Each section of the hexagonal grid enhances your character's magical or physical abilities, which gives you an advantage when fighting the hordes of enemies throughout the game. However, it is vital to remember that some of the more intelligent opponents will know how to use the HEX system as well, so be careful! This new system will no doubt have hardcore players swinging from the rafters, while at the same time, it remains accessible enough for complete novices.

With its exciting new features, lovingly-rendered visuals, accessible action and rich heritage, Wild ARMs 4 is not only a must for all RPG fans, but also newcomers to the genre.
