Summary

We cannot believe it is almost 10 years since Resident Evil first traumatised parents and left gamers flabbergasted around the world. We are very happy to report that even though it's been condensed down to a portable format, the DS version preserves most of what made the original so great. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence is more or less a straight port of the 1996 PlayStation classic, though there are a few nice twists that are made possible by the Nintendo DS.

The storyline is like something straight out of a George Romero film, and a bad one at that! The elite S.T.A.R.S. alpha team is sent to reconnoiter with bravo team, which vanished into thin air while investigating a disturbance near an old mansion. When they arrive, alpha team is savaged by zombie-like creatures and forced to split up. Now Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, together with several other surviving comrades, are trapped inside the mansion. It is your job to choose either Chris or Jill, get them to regroup and ultimately escape. Before it is possible for you to do this, there are numerous horrific creatures to kill and various puzzles to solve throughout mansion.

Resident Evil Deadly Silence features a 'classic' mode that is almost identical to the 1996 original. There is also a 'rebirth' mode that has some new features, and a Wi-Fi mode in which up to four players can either compete or co-operate as they fight through various areas. There are multiple endings to discover in the single-player mode, and the multiplayer option really does add lasting value to the game.
