Summary

There was a time when lovingly-crafted race simulation games on the PC were ten a penny. In 2005 though, they’re a little thin on the ground. All the more reason, then, for people with overclocked PCs, enormous shiny graphics cards and Momo racing wheels to welcome the arrival on the scene of the functionally-titled GTR FIA GT Racing Game. Published by Atari, the game has been created by Simbin and 10tacle racing, some of whom are in fact professional racing drivers.

The game aims to bring the player all the high octane action and excitement of real life FIA GT racing. All your favourite cars are here, because all the teams are here, from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche to Lotus, Lister, Morgan and Saleen. By the same token, all the official drivers feature in the game, which can be played from the faithfully constructed cockpit models of these amazing racing machines. Every bump and bend of all ten official tracks are included, with Donington Park in England, Monza in Italy, Magny Cours in France and Circuit de Catalunya in Spain among the legendary names. Different difficulties are on offer from a super-easy mode with auto-braking where you can learn the tracks, to a fiendishly difficult mode which aims to recreate the intense experience of driving a 650 BHP monster on the limit. As you’d expect from a sim of this nature, you have full control over the car's telemetry and can fiddle away to your heart’s content to optimise the car for the track and shave off those vital 1/10ths of a second. GTR FIA GT Racing leaves the pit lane after a long period in development, and sim-starved racing freaks and fans of these incredible cars alike should check it out.
