Summary

The character detective John Constantine first appeared in Swamp Thing in 1989. A mystic fellow taken to blurring the lines between Earth, Heaven and Hell, he later appeared in a strip in his own right in DC Comics’ celebrated Vertigo Hellraiser publication. In 2005, he appears in his own Warner Brothers feature film, played by Keanu Reeves, the latest in an increasingly more obscure procession of comic book heroes to grace the silver screen.

John Constantine was born with a gift - or curse - which allows him to recognise the angels and demons that walk the earth disguised as people. After a failed attempt to take his own life, a result of the stress brought about by his powers, Constantine became trapped. He is condemned to walk the earth until - he hopes - he can attain a reprieve by fighting the forces of darkness. He’s none too happy about his predicament, and he lives and drinks hard to ease his pain.

In the film he must team up with police detective Angela Dobson to investigate the mysterious death of her identical twin sister. A terrifying world of angels and demons, beneath the surface of modern Los Angeles, holds the key to the mystery.

Naturally, as a Warner Brothers film, it’s got to have an accompanying video game, and this one is published by Atari and developed by Galleon studio Sci. Players must control a digitised Keanu in the third-person action adventure game, which promises to be every bit as terrifying as the film. Braving the horror, players must use Constantine’s ‘True Sight’ ability to root out demonic half-breeds and other dark secrets, using a variety of spells and incantations to drive back the darkness. Also featured are the impressive holy artefacts, the Dragon’s Breath Flame-thrower, the Crucifier and the Holy Shotgun.
