A game of strategy warfare, Silent Storm proved popular with RTS veterans the world over. Furthermore, the Sentinels expansion pack was a welcome addition to the Nival-developed game. And in the Christmas 2004 run-up, the company has bundled the two together in what is a very desirable Gold Edition package.
As the conflict rages on the frontlines, you'll be leading a small multinational squad behind enemy lines to gather information and wreak havoc on your enemies, whilst trying to thwart a mysterious rising power whose plans are even more horrific than anything the world has yet witnessed.
Silent Storm is rendered in full 3D, and comes complete with fully destructible scenery and realistic weaponry, not to mention superbly animated characters and spectacular explosions. It looks great, and the hostile gaming locales have been designed to offer virtually unlimited tactical possibilities.
Before commanding on the battlefield, players must first choose a squad from a selection of 40 operatives and 30 nationalities, each with a unique background and a variety of skills and special abilities. And the large variety and diversity of squad members also means players can tailor their playing style as they see fit.
There are two non-linear campaigns available to players, giving them the ability to command either Allied or Axis forces, and a near unlimited amount of random encounters allows players to build their character's skills and prepare for the main games tougher campaign missions.
The Sentinels expansion pack takes you further into the story of the covert struggle against Thor's Hammer - a renegade organisation bent on global dominance. Former Axis and Allied operatives unite into a secret mercenary organisation ready to face the second coming of the enemy. This network, called Sentinels, is determined to protect the world's hard-won peace.
With a brand new campaign, stronger mercenaries, new mission objectives and customisable difficulty settings, Sentinels contributes to the Silent Storm adventure in the best way possible.
