Summary

Codemasters' super speed racing series gets an update for the forthcoming year with the release of IndyCar Series 2005. As you'd expect, the game is essentially an evolution of the franchise, benefiting from a host of new gameplay elements and features, most notably the offer on online support.

In case you didn't know, Indy racing is fast - trouser-soilingly fast. Raced on oval circuits similar to the likes of Daytona, the sport features F1-style cars that can reach speeds of up to 235mph. As a result it's quite eventful, adrenaline fuelled, and somewhat dangerous, and therefore ideal subject matter for the gaming world.

IndyCar series 2005 features all the official drivers, tracks, rules and sponsors of the real-world alternative, giving players the chance to take part in the full Indycar Series season. This includes the renowned Indianapolis 500, which allows drivers to compete from Pole Day to Bump Day to race day as one of the 33 drivers in what's commonly regarded as the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

There are 15 accurately recreated IndyCar tracks on offer, including the likes of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, Pikes Peak International Raceway, and the newly featured Twin Ring Motegi Speedway in Japan.

New to the series is a tweaked AI system that goes towards rendering each race as something of a new experience. Throughout the course of a race, AI opposition can do things like make dynamic strategic racing decisions, defend their position, slipstream, and even make mistakes. If you prefer the prospect of real opponents, however, then you can also take advantage of the newly-implemented online support, which allows up to eight players to face off in high speed battles over the Internet.
