After an awful summer with the Dursleys, Harry Potter can't wait to start his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Events take a strange turn however, when Harry discovers that the man believed responsible for the death of his parents - Sirius Black - has escaped from the wizard prison Azkaban. Black appears to be seeking revenge on Harry for thwarting 'You-Know-Who', while the Dementors - Azkaban prison guards sent to Hogwarts to protect the school and recapture Black - affect Harry in a disturbing way. With the help of good pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry is intent on unravelling the mystery surrounding Sirius Black and his escape from Azkaban.

The Prisoner of Azkaban allows you to take the roles of not just Harry, but also those of his chief sidekicks Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Throughout the story, you can switch between the three characters, thereby making best use of their skills in order to overcome the various challenges and enemies that you come up against. Using Hermione's obviously superior intellect - she is a girl, after all - along with Potter's spell-casting talents and Ron's effete and impudent snobbery (sorry Ron, but you're a bit of a drip) is the way to succeed in this game.

Nintendo's much-trumpeted GBA connectivity means that if you own a GameCube and both versions of the game, you can link the two consoles and transfer what's known as an Owl Care Kit. Kind of like a Tamagotchi, the Owl Care Kit allows you to take care of an owl by feeding, cleaning, exercising and teaching it, before you enter it into owl races. Ahem. Collectors cards can also be traded between two GBA consoles.
