Summary

The Hobbit is an action/adventure game set in the world of Middle-earth. In the game, players assume the persona of Bilbo Baggins, an unassuming Hobbit who has - through no fault of his own - been plunged into a huge adventure. In the game, you'll take Bilbo on an exploration of the magical world of Middle-earth. Gaping chasms will have to be jumped, treacherous mountains will have to be climbed, and you'll also meet enchanting Elves, battle-ready Dwarves, a powerful Wizard, massive Trolls, bloodthirsty Goblins, and scores more characters, as you travel from the peaceful lands of the Shire to the harrowing forests of Mirkwood.

Tolkien's visions of Rivendell, Laketown and all the rest, have been faithfully rendered by the developer; the creatures - great and small - have been given the attention to detail that younger gamers may miss, but veterans will delight at: facial expressions and gestures are a joy to behold at times.

At the heart of this telling of the story is the gameplay, and it spans a number of genres, taking in role-playing, stealth and combat approaches. The controls are easy enough to get to grips with, and with a target audience that no doubt encompasses 'olde worlde' Tolkien fans and new converts fresh from their Lord of the Rings awakening, The Hobbit has a ready-made audience. Fans of the great writer will not be let down by this fine re-telling of the story.
