Developer Rainbow Studios seems to be something of a veteran when it comes to off-road racing, what with previous titles such as ATV Off Road Fury and Motocross Madness under its proverbial belt. Well it seems the company is doing what it does best with this latest title, MX Unleashed a dirt-filled motocross extravaganza that offers a unique blend of racing and freestyle.
The game offers players the opportunity to race through 50 unique tracks and six open worlds, whilst taking advantage of a wide range of authentic gear and equipment from the worlds top manufacturers. Each of the games environments benefits from some impressive visual effects, which offer both high-detail texture resolution and simulated eco-systems.
As far as the actual racing element is concerned, MX Unleasheds main mode is a top 100 seeded Career Mode, which offers 14 separate amateur, semi-pro and professional race leagues for you to make your way through. Failing that, if you prefer things to be a little more extreme then the games Freestyle Mode is probably more up your street. Featuring a range of diverse worlds set in a variety of locations, times and weather conditions, Freestyle Mode allows you to take to your bike, explore your surroundings and pull off as many rad stunts as possible, as well as take on an assortment of mini-game challenges. As such, you have total freedom to do whatever you want, from finding hit points and exploiting runs, to such challenges as racing helicopters and locomotives.
At the heart of MX Unleashed lies an extremely comprehensive new physics engine, which results in the animation of both bike and rider being affected by a range of real world forces, such as cornering or landing a jump. Combined with the aforementioned detailed visuals and sound sampling that goes as far as to differentiate between 2- and 4-stroke engines, it all makes for quite an authentic motocross simulation.
