Frogger has come a long way since his perpetual road-crossing days in the 1980's. This latest adventure sees him journey across eight worlds - a slightly more daunting task than the usual roads and rivers lark.

As the story goes, it's a starry night and Frogger and his best mate Lumpy are having a bit of a lad's night out, reminiscing about Frogger's adventures when, all of a sudden, he remembers that tomorrow is his birthday. And no ordinary birthday either, according to Lumpy. Tomorrow, he says, Frogger will have to journey to the Chamber of the Elders and warp through magic portals to various worlds that will serve as his 'rite of passage'. Not your ordinary birthday celebration, but quite interesting all the same.

Retaining the classic 'hop 'n' jump' gameplay of the original arcade game, Frogger Beyond sees players take control of the amphibian anti-hero as he faces over 40 ferocious foes in his travels across the various worlds. Environments such as the rainforest, an underwater world and the underground must be traversed, each featuring a wide range of enemies and obstacles that must be overcome.

Helping Frogger in his quest are three special power-ups - Speed Up, an invisibility mode called Ghost Frog, and Feeding Frenzy, an ability that enables him to eat his enemies. As well as the usual platform-based hopping and jumping, Frogger also finds himself getting up to other antics, such as navigating through asteroid fields, steering a mine cart and riding a snowboard.

Crossing the original Frogger game with today's typical 3D platformer, Frogger Beyond presents a welcome mix of exploration, adventure and a gameplay mechanic that requires high precision and expert timing.
