The good old PlayStation ain't dead yet. Well, not now Midas have reintroduced the concept of 'ultra budget' games. Remember the old 8-bit days? Heading down to your local indie games shop, £2 in hand, to browse its £1.99 section. Either that or do some serious saving up for a full price title - £7.99!!! Ironically that exact price is now the budget threshold for the PSX, thanks largely to Midas' new Midas Touch value range.
Kickboxing Knockout is one such title from this range and, like all the rest, sports a fairly self explanatory name and offers the video games equivalent of the Tesco Value range: simple and basic no-frills gaming, which is, as a certain orange-faced, Lovejoy look-a-like would say, cheap as chips.
Get in the ring and take on your crazy opponents. Try and master the local, national and world championships across three weight classes. If you manage this, then there is another secret challenge to face. Using special moves, evasions and lots of rapid combos, it's your challenge to scale the rankings and become the kickboxing champ.
There are three modes to select from: Story, Ranking and Versus mode, all rather straightforward - the first two offering slight variations on the standard, single-player beat-em-up theme and the latter offering the opportunity to step into the ring with one of your friends. A total of 15 characters feature in the game and can be unlocked by giving them the thrashing of their lives.
