Summary

With Hollywood's seemingly endless supply of comic book remakes it's only to be expected that each one will appear in video game form at some time or another. Although not due to hit the big screen until some time in 2004, the latest Marvel superhero to step into the limelight starts with a release for the Game Boy Advance.

First launched in 1963, The Invincible Iron Man comics tell the story of billionaire genius Tony Stark. After getting seriously injured serving his country in overseas war operations Tony designs a high-tech, life-sustaining suit of armour, which subsequently leads to the birth of the eponymous crime fighter.

The Invincible Iron Man on the GBA casts players into the role of this new hero and challenges them to battle archenemies Blizzard, Crimson Dynamo and an entire team of notorious super-villains. With more than a passing resemblance to Capcom's MegaMan games, the title takes on this familiar, old-school approach and presents an assortment of challenges and battles amidst a heap of shooting and platform-jumping.

The story itself follows the hunt for a group of super-villains who have stolen Iron Man's battle suit technology, as the hero fights through hordes of enemies. Using a variety of battle suit weaponry, players navigate diverse levels that are filled with environmental obstacles and imminent danger, whilst unearthing multiple power-ups, unlockable bonus items and special pick-ups along the way.

You'd be correct in thinking that this is plain and simple classic gaming. Straight from the 16-bit days, Invincible Iron Man offers quickfire, pick-up-and-play, shoot-em-up action.
