Summary

No relation to the Japanese scare-the-pants-off-you movie of the same name, this adventure game is derived from even less predictable origins.

"Ring of the Nibelungen", which takes its roots from Scandinavian Mythology, was first compiled by the brothers Grimm to serve later as a libretto for Richard Wagner 's monumental opera. Also an important source for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, the tale has been adapted here into a game by Arxel Tribe, with the help of famous French illustrator Phillipe Druillet.

The story tells of the darkest forests at the top of the world and of the legend of a lost child who knows no fear.

"When the heavenly spring tides rise, the last wild wolves stare at the pole star to celebrate the memory of their hero: Siegfried, a fearless wild man, child born of a forbidden love, who alone had dared challenge the Gods and forever ended their reign."

The game itself takes the shape of a massive universe, made up of forests, castles and harbours, and populated by a diverse array of original characters, such as gods, heroes, villains, ogres, and dragons. Visuals come in the form of the old-style 2D, pre-rendered backdrops with 3D characters, all which look fantastic due to Druillet's flamboyant style.

A must for adventure fans, Ring II is a deep and immersive experience, rich in fantastical imagery, and should provide a good few hours of gameplay.
