Summary

Real-time strategy game Dragon Throne casts players back in time to one of China's most prominent eras, and delivers a substantial amount of management and combat.

The end of the Han Dynasty saw the collapse of the Chinese Empire. Soon after, war and opposition divided China into three kingdoms. After pacifying the north, General Cao Cao mustered his troops and headed south with the intent of unifying the realm. After a series of quick victories, Cao Cao had become so arrogant that he completely underestimated his rivals Sun Quan and Liu Bei, and failed to take advantage of the precious opportunity. On the contrary, he suffered a huge defeat, even though his crack forces greatly outnumbered the opposing forces. After the Battle of Red Cliffs, the division of the realm into three parts began to take shape.

Taking on the role of one of the three warring factions, players build their own regime, develop new technologies, establish strategic alliances and create powerful armies. The overall goal is to gain control of all kingdoms, thus unifying the nation.

A novel multi-map system allows players to keep a watchful eye over the whole proceedings by giving them the opportunity to switch windows between battles and the overall mission. This can be extremely helpful when the action gets frantic.

As far as multiplayer options are concerned, up to eight people can play against each other, either via a LAN or over the Internet, opening up a wide range of possible opponents and outcomes.

A standard RTS game, transported into a prominent era in history, Dragon Throne is highly recommended to fans of the genre.
