Summary

Not actually anything to do with a small island off the NW coast of Scotland experiencing a spell of bad weather, this latest release from Oxygen opts for the much more customary style of fantastical action adventure. Quite a good thing really - we don't reckon there'd be much of a future in Gaelic meteorological games. In actual fact, the Skye in question here is Skye of Lynlora, a sassy young shepherdess with a restless spirit, a smart mouth and a taste for adventure. In true adventure game spirit, this buxom young protagonist's world is forever changed following the arrival of an evil force and she is subsequently charged with the arduous task of putting the world to rights.

You know the story: some dark and mysterious bad guy has cloaked the world in darkness and only one saviour can rescue the world from Dread. And so you take control of the Lara-wannabe/Adventurous Spice, armed with a trusty battle staff and magic powers, and accompanied by the customary witty sidekick, as you embark on a combat-filled, magical adventure.

The main objective throughout the game, apart from kicking a whole lotta butt, is the acquisition of five ancient prisms, which, once united, can save the world from impending doom. Along the way there's also a plethora of puzzles that need solving, as well as a great deal of platform-style, high-precision jumping.

There are over 30 levels in total, spread across five different worlds, including such locales as Dungeon, Asian and Gargoyle. Each level plays host to at least 10 unique enemies and monsters, which need to be dispensed of with the aid of Skye's extensive range of moves. Let's also not forget the wealth of magic she has at her disposal - over 20 different spells - including the likes of True Sight, Awaken Stone, Diminish, Fire Walk, and Lightning.

There's a fair amount of adventuring to be done here that, although not the most original of concepts, can make for some involving gameplay. The whole thing is tied together quite nicely with some impressive narrative, voice acting and cut-scenes, which lend a fair amount of polish to the proceedings.
