If you've always fancied a nice, relaxing round or two of golf on an authentic PGA championship course but, like us, experience certain problems when it comes to actually being able to hit the ball, then Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf on the Game Boy Advance may just be the game for you.
Offering a variety of game modes, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf gives players the chance to vicariously live out their golfing dreams as either the putting prodigy himself or any one of 11 other top players.
Across the 18 holes of the fully realised Sawgrass course, players can practice, compete one-on-one, play a tournament or go for the 'instant action' option entitled Play Now. This offers a quick fix in the form of 12 challenges, such as achieving a birdie on the notorious 17th hole or completing a small selection of holes under par. A variety of multiplayer options is also available, with up to four players being able to compete, either turn-based on one GBA or via the link up option. Full rounds can be played or a tense 'Shootout' game can be played over random holes.
The visuals generally impress, with faithfully animated players knocking about around some nicely detailed holes. A real-time weather system also features throughout the game, presenting some excellent sky effects as well as affecting play.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf is an extremely competent portable golf sim. The game dynamic is well implemented, easy to pick up, and offers a fair amount of longevity in terms of mastery.
