Summary
The year is 2040 and the motor car is long forgotten. Gas prices had risen as the fossil fuels disappeared. Cold fusion, a process of harnessing the energy of smashing atoms, was discovered. Before humanity knew what it had found, the higher powers decided to keep this knowledge to themselves. They constructed giant blue belts high above the ground that stretched across the country, out of reach.
True to the irrepressible human spirit, rebel groups formed, constructing makeshift planes that could fly up to the belts and suck off the energy, thereby stealing from the so-called higher powers. As the companies learned of these rebels, they sent out their own craft to attack them. In time, stealing this fusion energy became an art in itself, and tales of bravery and sheer foolhardiness became legend.
A man called Jet Jevons was perhaps the biggest legend. With his band of Xenum rebels, Jet brought the companies to their knees, cutting off critical power belts and giving the power back to the governments. In Jet Ion GP, you get the chance to honour Jet Jevons as you join a team of highly-skilled pilots, racing among the power belts as a reminder of his courage and audacity.
Jet Ion GP owes an awful lot to the likes of WipeOut and G-Surfers, in that it’s a futuristic racer, full of loud colours and even louder banging choons. All the features you would expect from a racer of this ilk are here: the face-mangling speeds, craft that resemble evil surgical instruments, and a huge selection of weaponry with which to attack other ships: essential stuff, as far as success in Jet Ion goes. For something like a third of the price of WipeOut Fusion, and the already-budget-priced G-Surfers, Jet Ion GP is a bargain, cheap, but not nasty.
