JoWood has once again entered the strategy arena with the release of Rim: Battle Planets, the game formerly known as Outer Rim. Players will assume the role of Commander Max, who finds himself plonked in the middle of an interstellar war of epic proportions. Your only goal is said to be survival, but since you must destroy the opposition to do this, your goal is actually like most other strategy games survival via destruction of the enemy. Never forget this, since playing in a defensive mode wont get you anywhere.
Rim takes place almost exclusively in the dark skies, mainly on starships or on the backs of giant asteroids. There is the occasional land-based mission that helps to break the game up into more digestible chunks, negating the repetitive gameplay seen in so many other games of this kind. Game locations and settings are quite unique and have been rendered beautifully with a broad variety of textures and enemy characters.
Players will find themselves battling with six different races, programmed with amazing intelligence. One thing is certain: the war is not going to be easy to win.
