Developed by RTS veterans Pandemic Studios (Dark Reign 2, Battlezone II) Army Men: RTS aims to appeal to fans of the Army Men series by not being quite as intimidating as some strategy games, yet still retaining the genre’s depth and intensity.
The aim of the game is to strategically build and manage troops, vehicles and buildings whilst fighting a war. The game is easy to learn, uses an intuitive control dynamic and, for newcomers to the genre, features a comprehensive tutorial.
The idea is to collect resources and build bases before the Tans (the bad guys) can retaliate. This is helped by the manipulative camera system, which can be positioned overhead for the planning and preparation stages and can then be zoomed in on the action following the commencement of battle.
Army Men: RTS features three gameplay modes: Campaign, Great Battles and a LAN/Internet Multiplayer option for those with a network and/or internet connection.
Crossing in-depth strategy gaming with an addictive pick-up-and-play interface, the game promises to open up the real-time strategy genre to a wider audience.
