Summary
The Ubi Soft release of Pool of Radiance: The Ruins of Myth Drannor was well-received by the millions of existing PC role-playing fans. Following third edition Dungeons and Dragons rules, the game was a guaranteed success, and rightly so. Those looking for the ultimate package can now get their grubby mitts on Pool of Radiance: Collector’s Edition. The game is identical to its regular edition counterpart, but features bonus paper maps, a mouse pad and some miniature chainmail.

The Ruins of Myth Drannor continues shortly after its predecessor ended. In the ruins of Myth Drannor, an evil entity has revived the deadly Pool of Radiance and unleashed a wave of pure evil that curses anything it comes into contact with. You must assume the lead role and control of a party of diverse warriors in a quest to uncover the mystery of the Pool of Radiance and defend yourself against the merciless evil that awaits you.
But before you can embark on your quest, you must create a strong party to pave the way for peace. You are able to choose from a typical set of character classes that include Monks, Sorcerers and Barbarians. Also, a broad range of combat manoeuvres and spells can be used as you battle the hordes of evil minions. There are over 100 spells, each one more spectacular than the last. The improved visuals within Myth Drannor help to give on-screen action a greater impact on the player. Animation is smooth, and some of the new monsters can occupy over half the playing screen.
Pool of Radiance: The Ruins of Myth Drannor is a great PC role-playing game that is compelling to play in single-player mode. But the online multi-player mode is the real icing on the cake. Players can join forces with millions of other players in a true role-playing community. Brilliant.
