Summary

The critically acclaimed Starfleet Command games have been welcomed with open arms by fans of the Star Trek franchise. Courtesy of Interplay, these games have offered some of the most amazing real-time strategy experiences ever created. The latest edition to this series of games is Orion Pirates, a stand-alone update developed for PC.

The Orion Pirates, a group of eight cartels each with a unique history, insignia and crew voices, are now controlling many territories of Federation Space. Naturally, as a crew member of the Federation Starship Enterprise, you have been called upon to execute a plan devised by HQ that will save all humankind.

As a game, Orion Pirates features 12 campaign missions and 26 skirmish missions, as well as further three bonus missions for those clever enough to find them. Within each of these missions you will be up against a formidable plethora of heavily armoured alien races. To compensate, Orion Pirates has incorporated new weapons, such as shield-piercing phasers and some very nasty and effective heavy photons. But that doesn’t make the game any easier. On the contrary, any advantage given to the player is often results in more challenging gameplay, and Orion Pirates is no exception.

Independent of its predecessors, Orion Pirates offers a unique challenge that often feels similar to an episode of the TV series. The big difference, of course, is that you are in control. It’s about as close to the Star Trek experience as you’re going to get, and for some people out there, that's just the ticket.
