Summary

With the PC flight simulator becoming more advanced and professional, competition from the developers of these games is strong. One of the genre’s more popular flight games is God Games’ FLY! To keep up with current flight simulators, FLY 2, published by Take has been produced.

Because FLY’s predecessor was already a comprehensive game, FLY 2 acts as more like an expansion than an outright sequel. Graphically, there is little room for improvement, but the level of detail has been increased considerably. Complex 3D aircraft models remain, as does a global scale flight area, boasting high resolution images.

In terms of content, new exclusive aircraft such as the Pilatus PC-12 Turboprop have been included, as well as updated versions of older craft, including the Cessna Skyhawk, the Beechcraft KingAir and the Raytheon Hawker.

A thorough tutorial session is available that will prove extremely useful to newcomers of the game. After flying several different planes in the training mode, you will soon realise how unique each of the aircraft handle, even if you’re restricted to just a mouse and keyboard. Some kind of video game pilot controller is advisable for those looking for the ultimate flight experience. The plethora of pre-programmed single player missions is used as a means of progression within the game, giving the player a goal to strive for. But it is in multi-player mode where the amazing gameplay is shown. Playing against other friends and even professional pilots offers a great challenge that is a lot of fun. Ultimately, it is the flight experience combined with some great gameplay that makes FLY2 worth its money.
