The enduring cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry are continuing to make an impact on the younger side of the video games industry with the release of Ubi Softs The Magic Ring for Game Boy Advance.
Jerry has spotted an advertisement for a magic ring for a mouse that, if worn, will give him equal abilities to his arch-rival, Tom. Needless to say, he finds the ring, and the spell is cast upon him. But after he has his fun, Jerry finds that the ring is stuck on his head and cant remove it. And with Tom and several other ring-crazed bad guys after Jerrys possession, hes gonna have a hard time protecting himself. Will the little fella get his comeuppance? Lets see.
Gameplay is essentially divided into two separate categories, Story and Combat. The former tells Tom and Jerrys stories with challenging levels interspersed among them. Players can assume control of both the cat and the mouse in a simple side-scrolling adventure that, although lacking in originality, is great fun to play and will captivate its target audience. Several bosses and a broad range of gaming environments give The Magic Ring a complete and polished feel. And theres nothing worse than a game that has something missing that you just cant put your finger on. This is not that game.
If a good Tom and Jerry story doesnt take your fancy, Combat mode should suffice. Again, taking control of either foe, your task is to take out your opposition in the most efficient way possible.
Simple controls, uncomplicated gameplay and a shallow learning curve means that The Magic Ring is definitely one for the kids. Good fun for the young at heart too!
