Summary

The real-time strategy game (RTS), still most popular for the PC platform, is a well established genre that boasts a huge portfolio of A-list titles. Expanding the genre even further was the release of Sudden Strike from CDV. Not content with the success of the original, the company has released an expansion pack titled Sudden Strike Forever.

Adding to the collection of the original, Sudden Strike Forever (SSF) boasts 39 brand new missions that cover a variety of campaigns, single player and multi-player levels. The four new campaigns that cover Germany, Russia, the UK and the US take place over several varied locations that include Winter, Autumn and desert themes.

The interface has also been improved for the convenience of the player. Players can now view their soldiers, the insides of trucks and buildings and send pre-defined messages with the click of a button. Such improvements allow the player to completely understand the current situation and act quickly and accordingly. Consequently, the ease of use for the player means the game’s new levels are more immediately challenging.

Multi-player support is one of SSF’s stronger points. The 20 new multi-player missions make for some of the most intense and strategic gameplay ever witnessed, provided there are enough players.

The game’s mission and map editor remains the ultimate source of freedom within the game. Players can now specify terrain, locations and even victory conditions.

As an expansion pack, Sudden Strike Forever has plenty to offer. Whether you are an owner of the original or not (and you have to be in possession of a copy of Sudden Strike to get SSF going) it’s still worth its money.
