One of Capcom’s finest characters is starring in another quality game for the PlayStation. Mega Man X5 is the continuation of the popular X series, a reversion to the classic days of 2D platformers. Some games are just meant to be played in this perspective, and if you fancy a throwback to the good old days, X5 is for you.

Mega Man X5 is essentially a side-scrolling, sprite-based action game. Mega Man and his trusty ally Zero have just 48 hours to save the Earth from complete destruction. This means there is a strict time limit in force, and if you take too much time dawdling about, you will inevitably fail. The time limit automatically creates a sense of urgency, but you’ll have to keep cool under pressure.

The time factor also affects in-game events and has a direct link to the ending of the game. How quickly you complete a stage determines how much energy and weapon-enhancing technology you can steal from the level boss. Weapon power-ups have always been a key feature of the Mega Man games. Mega Man loves to upgrade his firepower with new capabilities and special moves. Multiple endings are one of the best incentives to complete a game several times.

You can play as either Mega Man or Zero, both have the potential to avert the evil Sigma’s plans to wipe out Earth with an asteroid. X5 features eight massive, beautifully drawn worlds to make your way through. Each level boasts multiple paths and hidden locations. It is worth finding these hidden spots because often they often contain secret weapons.

With classic gameplay, challenging platform sequences, a top-notch plot and good graphics, Mega Man X5 is a more than worthwhile title.
