Summary

The flood of quality Sega arcade ports to the PlayStation 2 continues with the release of Zombie Revenge. In case you missed the arcade game, Zombie Revenge is a 3D scrolling beat-em-up, similar to a modern day version of Final Fight, but with the undead. Zombie Revenge follows a side story carrying on from the popular lightgun game, House of the Dead.

What scrolling fighting game would be complete without weapons, power-ups and combos? Your attacks can be linked together in various orders to take out the most hardened zombie. Frequently, several creatures will attack at once, and being able to blast your way out of danger feels very satisfying. The two-player mode is great, as you can cover each other and employ different tactics.

Zombie Revenge is a difficult game to complete and that’s part of the appeal. Some games feel the need to give you unlimited credits so that you can just walk through a game if you wish. How much willpower does it require not to continue just one more time? In Zombie Revenge, you have to be quick, efficient and deadly, and you need to perfect your skills. This takes practice especially when you have to share your precious ‘continues’ with your friend. The time limit adds pressure to an already tense game. Once you start getting behind yourself, its very easy to make a mistake. Then the dreaded encounters with the particularly nasty bosses are just that little bit trickier.

Zombie Revenge is scarily detailed and darkly lit, has great arcade-style playability and excellent two-player co-operative gameplay.
