Summary
Whatever it took to fire the fevered imagination that brought us Bill and Ben all those years ago, give thanks. Engaging fun for today’s young ‘uns (if they can see beyond Pikachu and co.) and sure to get adults all nostalgic, these unlikely characters are an indelible part of TV history. Having undergone a hi-tech overhaul, the Flowerpot Men are now making their way onto home computers everywhere with the release of Bill and Ben: Flowerpot Fun.
Both developed and published by the BBC, the company has produced Flowerpot Fun with both educational and social aspects in mind. Primarily, the game consists of several diverse mini games that are actually a lot of fun to play, no matter what your age is. The Pipe Maze, for example, involves the player filling in the missing gaps to complete a pipe trail for Bill and Ben to run through. Should you be successful, you will be given the opportunity to proceed to harder stages of the game. Other games like Catch a Nut and Flobbatunes are also fun to play. Flobbapaint is a purely recreational mini game that allows players to run wild with an easy-to-use paint package without making any mess. It’s a dream for parents. After a hard days play of Flowerpot Fun, the kids can then settle down and watch some of their favourite animated clips in the Flobbavision section.
The game as a whole is educational in that children can learn how to act and react in virtual situations, but that doesn’t mean there’s no fun to be had. There is, and lots of it. There is no doubt that this game will prove itself hugely enjoyable to the young generation of PC users.
