Summary

Fans of the Looney Tunes cartoons will be familiar with the sarcastic nature of these programmes, but it is often the case that this kind of comedy attracts an adult audience. Not content with popping up on daytime television when you least expect it, the gang is once again making its way onto GameBoy Color with the release of Looney Tunes Racing, courtesy of Activision.

Delving into the karting field of the racing genre, Looney Tunes Racing is reminiscent of the Nintendo classic, Mario Kart. Visually, the title is nothing to shout about, but it does incorporate some nice graphical touches that give the game a feeling of depth.

All the favourite Looney Tunes characters are present, including the legendary Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian, complete with some hilarious traditional ACME tools and weapons. After selecting your preferred racer, you are free to race any of the game’s ten tracks. Each location takes inspiration from the Looney Tunes classic cartoons, and re-creates a comedic and lush racing environment. But beware, there are some devious opponents on the track. Much of Looney Tunes Racing is based around dirty tactics, and you will quickly succumb to this when you are pounded off the track by giant-sized hammers and falling anvils.

As frustrating as this game can be, the jokes can be equally hilarious, and the combination of the two makes for a blinding combination. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable video game that offers something refreshing to the handheld industry. Slapstick for the youngsters, and good old-fashioned immature comedy for older viewers is a great combination.
