There's a freaky looking Kermit-sized clue, staring out from the front cover, as to what this title is made up from: other peoples' games. Muppet Monster Adventure is a veritable Frankenstein-like creation, a game that has taken all the components of a modern day 3D platform adventure and assembled them in an order that is not quite correct. Herein you will find echoes of the Spyro The Dragon, Croc and Crash Bandicoot series of games, and veteran platform fans will no doubt see ghosts of other titles right from the beginning of the game. It's a shame, because the opening movie looks quite promising, as Miss Piggy, Fozzie the bear and the rest of the major Muppet characters end up trapped in Castle Von Honeydew on the scariest night of the year…Halloween! As is usually the case when this kind of thing happens, everybody except Kermit's nephew Robin is transformed into a ghoulish creature, and it's up to the little green fella to help them all change back to normal.

So that's the plot, but what you can expect from the game-play is even less imaginative. Guide Robin around the castle and its grounds, pick up Muppet Tokens and the promisingly-monikered Evil Energy in order to gain the ability to climb, smash, push blocks and swim. All essential if you feel you must play on, but if you must have Muppets on your PlayStation, go for the enduring and much more enjoyable Muppet Racemania instead of this. The likes of Spyro and Crash have nothing to fear, as their reign as kings of the PSX platformers remains unchallenged.
