Rally titles have become extremely popular since the introduction of 3D capable platforms, but Kemco have shown that its equally possible to create a fun rally title for a 2D machine, particularly, the GameBoy Color. Nintendos ten-year-old format originally showcased some of the simplest graphics ever created, but as time progressed, more and more complicated tasks were drawn out of the old machine. Now, TG Rally 2 makes its way onto GameBoy.
As a rally title, races take place both off-road and on-road, depending on the track, naturally. Time is of the essence here, not position; so drive carefully you twit! As more races are won and you eventually have cash of a foreign nature, you are permitted to tune new parts for your sad machine, or preferably buy a new car, increasing your chances to win the race.
There are a number of game modes to participate in, including quick arcade, championship, and a two-player option using the GameBoys handy little link cable. The CPU opponents are among some of the most frustrating ever created in a video game, making it nigh on impossible to attempt any overtaking on a straight stretch of track. TG Rally 2 is one the hardest racing games around on 2D platforms of late, and as such, will keep you playing unhappily for a long time to come. Be nice, now.
