Summary

As an update to an “eighties” classic, Gauntlet Legends has a lot to live up to. This old arcade-turned-home console game once again gets to re-live its past memories in a brand new 32-bit version complete with full 3D environments.

To start Gauntlet Legends you must first choose one of four character classes (there’s another five hidden); initially you can be the Archer, Valkyrie, Warrior or Wizard. Each class has different attributes, such as the Warrior having superior strength or the Archer being quicker on her feet. After a little experimentation you should find a character suited to your playing style. Remember that you are one of the heroes who has been summoned forth by the benevolent wizard Sumner to rid the four worlds of Gauntlet of the evil demon Skorne and his minions. Within each world you must find the special obelisks you’ll need to attempt such a task.

Gauntlet Legends is a non-stop action adventure with role-playing elements. “Use keys to open chests!” “Wizard needs food badly.” There is a nice mix of nostalgia and freshness when playing this game. With a massive and challenging world, characters that evolve and a two player fun-fest option, Gauntlet Legends is a worthy update of an early classic.
