Summary

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer is a fast and exciting racing game for the Gameboy Color.

In this game you assume the role of a young Anakin Skywalker trying to win enough money to escape slavery. Anakin is the only human with reactions quick enough to compete in such a demanding and dangerous race. The force is unusually strong within Skywalker, it’s almost as if he can predict and react to events that haven’t even happened yet. Which is nice, especially racing at speeds of over 600 mph.

Episode 1 racer has a nice learning curve. It is straightforward to get into but difficult to master. It takes time to learn the racing line and whether to push or not. After you’ve been cruising at top speed for a while you have the option to blast the afterburners. This gives extra top speed but slowly overheats the engines, making it more difficult to corner and increasing your chances of getting a close personal look at the wall. On the other hand you can pull back while cornering to slow down a bit and keep that line.

Star wars has loads of tracks on offer, with more tracks and pods becoming available after you win races. The records feature adds tons of replayability, as you’ll always want to beat your best time. Also included is a 2-player link up option so you can challenge your mates.
