Summary

Let’s be honest, most racing games produced today are about racing, chasing or being chased. So it makes a refreshing change when the genre explores its adventure side. It’s nice when you can have a break from driving to talk to a few of your bosses and find out what your next challenge should be. THQ’s Mission Bravo from Matchbox incorporates such gameplay elements.

Tying in with Emergency Patrol for GameBoy Color, Mission Bravo is also a top-down vehicle-based game. However, in this game you can take control of numerous vehicles that include planes, tanks and boats, among other things. The game takes place across 14 missions, in which you must plan your own strategies and deploy your resources to make the Matchbox world a safer place.

For multi-player fanatics, there is a two-player head-to-head option available that takes place via a trusty link cable. Gameplay is made even more interesting when weapons and power ups are brought into the situation. Each vehicle has its own unique weapons that can be used to take advantage of the opposition, and therefore, no match will ever be played the same way.

The Matchbox brand is now fifty years old, and it’s nice to see the company making its way into the video games industry.
