Summary

Animal lovers and fans of the feature film Babe, beware. Hogs Of War, like an under-done bacon sandwich, will most likely leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. For the rest of us carnivores, and disciples of mindless destruction, the game with the tag-line ‘Born To Grill’ looks set to fill the gap between meals, like a deluxe size packet of pork scratchings.

Set in a handsomely-portrayed 3D landscape, Hogs Of War is a turn-based combat game, where you select a squad of porcine paratroopers, including brave little souls from France, Germany and Japan, and run clumsily around the battlefield throwing grenades, firing mortars, setting off gas explosions (these are pigs after all), and generally visiting as much damage as possible to one another. Hogs Of War can be played solo, but maximum enjoyment can be achieved in two-player mode, so get a fellow non-vegetarian along to play, and you’re in for plenty of laughs.

Confrontation between the animals is interspersed with suitably over-the-top accented dialogue and ham-fisted puns courtesy of popular light entertainer Rik Mayall. Suffice to say that Mister Mayall’s outrageous histrionics are entirely suited to a game concept that is, to be frank, as mad as a boot.

So which will it be? Stay home and watch Hamburger Hill on video…again!? Or ask some friends around for some flame-grilled thrills? The smart money’s on the smoky bacon.
