Summary

Blue Byte Software, an increasingly promising developer within the industry, is without a doubt most famously known for its expertise with the Settlers series. Established in 1993, the first three instalments of Settlers have sold nearly three million games. Still going strong, Settlers 4 has finally been released, and it looks better than ever, superseding its predecessors in every way.

This time around, three races – the Romans, the Mayans and the Vikings – are up against the evil Morbus and his Dark Tribe. Not content with anything less than the destruction of all Settlers, you have an almighty challenge on your hands.

Consisting of two modes of play, single and multi-player, Settlers 4 offers a unique experience to everybody. For solo players, a long journey awaits. Each of the three controllable races has their own unique objectives and campaigns. Once again, you are able to trade with your race’s neighbours through the use of donkey carts, among other things. You can utilise improved transport, build paths and roads, hunt for wild animals and form new strategies of population development. Players looking to socialise a little can now participate in LAN and Internet gaming with up to seven other players. Those of you looking for the ultimate challenge can motivate yourselves to reach the top of the world ranking lists.

This fourth edition delivers just as much, if not more, as the rest of them did. Its predecessors didn’t disappoint, and this one doesn’t either.
