Summary

Here’s a game that may well have the ends of your fingers glowing by the time you get to the end. Yes, you could end up with an ET-like digit after the bigger-than-most action adventure experience that is Terracon.

You play the part of Xed (pronounced Zed, as if you didn’t know), an alien chosen to protect his home planet from the Terracon. The Terracon are a band of unsavoury characters intent on stealing valuable genergy, a combination of life source (genesis) and energy. Genius wordplay! In order to protect this resource, Xed roams his huge planet and collects the genergy for himself, all the while gaining more strength and eventually extra lives.

At the outset, there are directional arrows and a map to guide you around the levels, but the environment is totally free roaming. The key to finding all the life-giving resources and bonuses is to stray from the specified paths and search each level thoroughly. You never know what you may uncover. There are over thirty levels to play through, so the collection of genergy is vital, as it can be traded for extra powers when you reach the mothership at the end of each level.

Terracon works as an adventure platformer simply because of its expansive nature and sumptuous looks. It will take an age to complete and discover everything that’s hidden herein, but it’s a safe bet that you’ll have fun trying.
