Summary

There’s been an addition to the heaving throng of football management titles available on the PlayStation, and Premier Manager 2000 from Infogrames is well worth a look. Bang up to date with club squads from the Premiership, through the Nationwide Leagues, and even a choice from the top divisions of Italian, German, French or Spanish leagues, Infogrames have clearly done their research. On the surface, it’s looking pretty good so far, but what can yet another football management game offer us this time around?

Answer? There must be as much detail and information on this disc as there is in the FBI, but a whole lot more fun. Premier Manager 2000 is something of a footy anorak’s dream which also gives free reign to your megalomaniacal desires. You choose the team, the tactics, who to pursue in the transfer market, and who to let go, and so on. It’s as close as you can get to the dug-out without persuading the landlord at your local to let you take charge of his team’s affairs, and controversially drop Nutty Barry from the side. It’s safer to stay home and play Premier Manager 2000, the players’ names are more exotic, if less enigmatic (sorry Barry), plus you get to spend enormous amounts of money if you’re in charge of a big club.

Premier Manager 2000 features customisable game highlights courtesy of the Actua Soccer engine, or if you prefer not to watch, there is text messaging for the speed-readers amongst you. There’s also a career mode where you start low and aim high, European competitions, and a menu selection that is so easy to navigate, it’s a pleasure to play.
