Summary

Released in 1998, Tonic Trouble is one of a million of Mario 64 clones. Because of Tonic Trouble’s renowned predecessor, any title of the same genre is going to be compared in every aspect. So, how does it compare?

Okay, here’s the story. You, Ed, are the friendly little alien scientist who accidentally drops an experimental can of goop out of the space hatch. Where does it land? Earth of course. The only problem is that it turns everything it touches into nasty beings, such as killer tomatoes. Ooh, nasty. Now it’s up to you to get your butt down to earth and put everything back to the way it was.

TT has very nice looking 3D attributes, but would have benefited so much more, had it been compatible with the RAM Expansion Pak. Nevertheless, game play is what counts here. TT’s level design is actually very impressive. Levels are plentiful; there are lots of collectibles, platforms, and slides, all of which add to the fun. Ed himself, is very much like the character of Rayman, whereby he has no limbs, just hands and legs. He is an alien though.

Tonic Trouble is almost a pure platformer, not an adventure, but this doesn’t detract from the games’ aim; to be fun.
