Summary

Not many role-playing games make it over to Western shores, since they are not considered to be popular over here. In 1997, Squaresoft proved otherwise with its hugely popular Final Fantasy series. Ever since that momentous day, there has been a notable increase in shipments of RPG games. When Konami released Suikoden back in 1997 it proved successful enough to warrant a sequel. Three years later, Suikoden 2 is ready for a European launch.

This game takes you back to the 16-bit days of 2-dimensional scrolling. The simple nature of the graphics when placed onto a 650Mb CD-ROM allow for a huge game with many, many environments. Combat is turned based and uses the full range of both physical and magical attacks you would expect from a game of this type. Some special effects are nice to look at despite the simple nature of this game. There is also a deep plot for you to get stuck into that revolves around the legend of the 108 stars. It’s a little complicated to get into.

Suikoden 2 is a huge game, and boasts a vast bestiary of monsters, weapons and spells, all blended with huge environments and a sizeable inventory. What more could you ask?
