Summary

Maken X for the Dreamcast is a different kind of game to what we are normally used to. It successfully combines the first person shooter with a beat-em-up. Add an intriguing storyline and all of a sudden, Maken X comes into its own. The world is about to fall into chaos with the imminent arrival of WW3 breaking out between the United States and China. All is not right, someone is manipulating the minds of the world leaders.

PSI is the existence of the human soul and Maken is the first medical instrument that can use this energy and modify it. Maken is about to waken, you are the sword Maken. The control method is simple, yet effective. Borrowing the Z-lock technique from Zelda 64, it’s possible to track enemies within the 3D environment easily. Useful for a combat game where you have to fight more than one enemy at the same time.

One of the most interesting features of Maken X is the Brainjacking. When you reach a sufficient level, you can take control of different characters that you find in the game. Not only is this a cool idea, but it effects the ending of the game. This feature seriously encourages repeated playing. Maken X is game that has style and deserves checking out.
